Marjeta
Skok
Teacher
of kayak skills
The youngest in the family of elder brothers
- all water crazy - she just followed the natural path of
following the elder brothers. She was an accomplished competitor,
a coach of the junior teams and internationally recognized
white water kayaking judge. It was on the cards for her to
sit in the kayak and try the River Sava at Tacen. The great
example if not the greatest motivator in the sport was her
brother Janez who was at the same time her coach and mentor
assisting her in overcoming the obstacles and urging her on
further. However to be a junior sister to an accomplished top
level competitor was not easy.
As her competitive career was peaking, she
suffered some injuries which cut short her until then brilliant
path: she was a national champion for a number of years; a
qualifier with the 5th place at the World Junior Championships;
8th placing at the European Team Cup; and as the farewell
performance of her competitive road she reached the 4th place
on the World Team Championships; and that was achieved at
home on the local rapids at Tacen . . .
After ended her competitive career, however
her enthusiasm for the sport did not wane. The paddling became
her way of life. Her kayaking fire was transferred to her
son Staš who is carrying on the family tradition and love
of the sport. But for all the people who would like to learn
and enjoy the sport of kayaking Marjeta is the best
teacher and companion on the water; a companion type
teacher who knows how to bring the best out of the hidden
competitor in an individual even if this is the very first
time that individual has set into a kayak.
Her motto is:
We all have our own individual ways to
clear the mind; I love to relax mine on the water in a kayak
. . .
