Rafting on Tara River

. . . it is planned to start somewhat like this:

The start is from Ljubljana about 10 PM. Overnight drive will take us through Croatia and in the morning we cross into Bosnia and Herzegovina. We stop for a short visit to the town of Mostar and a lunch break. After lunch we continue on to Montenegro and we will reach the highest located town in the Balkans, Žabljak in the early evening. After checking in at our hotel, we will head out for diner and then some rest. Early morning breakfast will give us enough time to visit the Black Lake at Žabljak, and then we head for the famous bridge on Đjurdević Tara.

. . . the main event - the rafting in the canyon of River Tara . . .

Close to the Đjurdevic Tara at about 1 PM we will be on the water. Our rafting adventure will be well on the way. After some 40 kilometers we will be deep in the canyon and about 6 PM we should reach the rafting and kayaking harbor of sorts at the Radovan Luka (translated as Radovans Harbor). The time of arrival is of course closely related to the water levels in the canyon. We will settle in for the night at the local motel. That will be followed by a feast of diner including lots of roast lamb on the spit, local red wine (delicious), some toasts will be made with the local spirit called "loza" and this stuff is rather potent liquid. And along all this it is anticipated to have lots of fun till the very late or rather early hours . . .

After breakfast back on to the water down to the Siga Bajlović Falls. A short stop will be used to pay a visit to the local caves to see the wanders made by water, calcium and time. The down river trip continues on towards the point called Brstanovica. There will be a short rest, and then comes the best part of nearly 100 kilometers of this rafting exclusive. The adventure on Tara River will end at the Scepan Polje (Torn Field), where three rivers merge into one. Here rivers Tara and Piva flow into River Drina.

. . . and here we wrap up the rafting part of this trip . . .

After we had satisfied our hunger (one does get rather ravenous after the day on the water . . .) with a well deserved diner at the Scepan Polje, we drive on to the town of Sarajevo the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina and take refuge in the local pension for a well deserved rest. After breakfast we commence our return journey to Ljubljana via the city of Sarajevo. We will stop for a short while and take a walk through the Bas Ćaršija ( Baazar dating back to the period of Turkish dominance of the area). If there are any other points of interests, you would like to see we can do that and also taste some of the local food in one of the many stalls and vending places. About 1 PM we will head back to Slovenia. We will have a late lunch, and then continue on our return drive and we should reach Ljubljana at a rather late hour of 11PM.
